The Home of the Whopper® turns into the Home of the Ghosts this Halloween

This October, customers can use the Burger King app to become ghost-hunters – and earn a free Whopper for it

ZUG, Switzerland. October 11, 2022 – Burger King is taking Halloween to a new level this year by adding a ghost-detecting feature to its app. With the fast-food leader’s “Home of the Ghosts” campaign, guests can discover paranormal activity around their homes. Guests who use the Home of the Ghosts feature in the app are in for a spooky surprise: when they purchase a Whopper®, they earn a free Whopper® for their ghoulish guests. The campaign will run in eleven countries worldwide, including the US, the UK, Canada, Spain, and Brazil.

Everyone at some point in time has asked themselves whether their house is haunted, and the topic becomes just about unavoidable as October sets in. What people might not stop to ask, however, is whether having a haunted house can be a good thing – much less how they might show hospitality to their haunters.

This year, Burger King shows guests how to do just that. By connecting its official app to a Magnetic Field Sensor, which most smartphones already have built in, the restaurant chain enables patrons to detect electromagnetic fields that suggest supernatural activity. When a “ghost” is detected, an app user will receive a buy-one-get-one coupon for a free Whopper to share with their ghostly companion. 

“We at Burger King are excited to put a new twist on our long-standing tradition of surprising our guests around Halloween,” says Andrea Beer, Brand Communication Director at Burger King. 

“This year, we encourage customers to hunt for ghosts wherever they like to hang out. And if they find one, we’re doubly excited to reward them for sharing their spaces.”

“Every Halloween, Burger King looks for a new way to get people talking,” adds André Toledo, CCO of DAVID New York. “This year, it’s about getting people talking to their paranormal roommates.”

The Home of the Ghosts campaign and the Magnetic Field Sensor feature will be active from October 11th to November 1st, with different launching dates in each market. The deal will last from October 11th to October 31st in Spain and South Africa; October 12th to 31st in the UK; October 11th to November 6th in Canada; October 17th to 31st in the US; October 24th to 31st in Belgium, Brazil, and Italy; October 24th to November 1st in Chile; October 25th to November 5th in Argentina; and October 28th to November 4th in Mexico.
