Viber dials up its premium service with Invisible Mode and Read Voice Messages features
Viber rolls out two new Viber Plus features, giving users the ability to turn voice messages into text and hide their status while seeing others’
SAN FRANCISCO. August 3, 2023 – Rakuten Viber, the global leader in private and secure messaging and voice-based communication, is launching new capabilities – Invisible Mode and Read Voice Messages, enhancing the privacy and ease of communication on the platform. The two features will be available exclusively on Viber Plus, the monthly subscription service offering premium features.
Sending voice messages is becoming increasingly popular. In fact, 62% of Americans have sent a voice message, while over 30% of Americans use this form of communication weekly, if not daily. However, voice messages are not the most convenient to listen to if you aren’t in a quiet and private setting. Viber’s new Read Voice Messages feature takes voice messages and transcribes them into text so any message can be securely read anytime, anywhere.
Viber is also launching Invisible Mode, taking read receipts one step further by allowing its subscribers to privately read messages and browse on the platform. Users will be able to see who is online while their own status shows offline. They can open messages without revealing that it’s been read until they’re ready.

The two new offerings will join the suite of features already available through the Viber Plus subscription service to further enhance the Viber experience. For just $1.99 a month, Viber Plus subscribers will see no ads in Viber’s messaging platform and enjoy other exclusive features such as multiple app icon styles, personalized 1-on-1 support, and unlimited stickers, with many more enhancements coming soon.
To try out the service, users who have access can opt in by clicking ‘More’ in the bottom right corner of the app. All features available prior to this update, including text messaging and calling, remain completely free-to-use.
The features will be added to the premium service for iOS in the United States of America, Czech Republic, Montenegro, Switzerland, Kuwait, Australia, Tuvalu, Israel, Sweden, Austria, India, and Italy, with additional regions added on a rolling basis. Android users in the above regions will have access to Invisible mode in the next few weeks, with Read Voice Messages coming in September.
